Standard of Care: Arthroscopic repair of a rotator cuff tear.
Case Type / Diagnosis:
It is widely known and understood that the rotator cuff provides dynamic stability of the
glenohumeral joint. This is achieved through co-contraction of numerous muscles that
approximate the humeral head within the glenoid fossa and guide humeral head movement. Early
recognition of rotator cuff disease began in the mid 1930’s from the work of Codman where he
described the critical zone of the supraspinatus near its insertion, where most tears occur.
